Der Ring des Nibelungen
Dan Ettinger, Richard Wagner
Richard Wagner’s The Ring of the Nibelung was produced for the Wagner anniversary year 2013 at the Nationaltheater Mannheim by musical director Dan Ettinger and Achim Freyer – director, stage designer, make-up artist and lightning designer. Achim Freyer staged a magical, visually stunning theatre which shaped the „mythological world“ of the Rhinegold, the “archaic” of The Valkyrie, the “first man” of the Siegfried and the “Weltentanz” of a modern fun society in the Twilight of the Gods as a symbolic show, rich in relations and symbols. “Wagner set the term ‚total artwork‘ and the alienation effect ‚timelessness‘ into the world of theatre. So he reaches us with his works on language and philosophy, music and image in time and space. He creates greatest enlargement conceivable of art and life for us today”, so Achim Freyer. The Mannheim Opera ensemble and the orchestra of the Nationaltheater under direction of Dan Ettinger created – with Freyer’s scenic vision of the „Neuen Mannheimer Ring“
